Speaking after releasing 87,500 fish seedlings under the Mission Fingerlings programme in Mylavaram reservoir, he said that the quantity of water in the reservoir measured at 4-5 tmc and hence there would be no problem for the growth of the fishlings.

Speaking after releasing 87,500 fish seedlings under the Mission Fingerlings programme in Mylavaram reservoir, he said that the quantity of water in the reservoir measured at 4-5 tmc and hence there would be no problem for the growth of the fishlings.

The species of fishlings released are Katla (8,700), Mrugali (8,700) and Ropu (70,100). Even if 30 per cent of the seedlings survive the fishermen would get good revenue, the Minister said. The government provides mopeds to fish hawkers with 90 per cent subsidy. The subsidy component for the BCs is 75 per cent.

He distributed loans worth Rs 3.4 lakh among 34 women’s groups involved in selling fish. He recalled how fishermen saved his life when he was washed away by the swirling waters of Kundu River in Pedamudiyam mandal in 2006.

Therefore, he said that he was deeply indebted to fishermen’s community. Fisheries department Deputy Director Chandrasekhar, Assistant Director Nagaraju, Fishermen’s Cooperative Society chairman Gurappa and many fishermen took part in the programme.
