Tirupati: The auditorium of the Sri Venkateswara Medical College (SVMC), which is the venue for several important conventions, will have a new look soon. The state government has sanctioned Rs 17.5 lakh for the auditorium renovation works. The 57-year-old medical college was not having a modern auditorium all these years. It was almost 10 years ago that the present auditorium was built and named as “Dr D Krishnamurthy Kalakshethram,” without modern equipment.
Highlights:
- Rs 17.5 lakh sanctioned for seating and AC of 700 capacity auditorium
- SV Medical College needs Skilled Lab, Burns Ward, and Black Top roads, says SVMC Principal Dr NV Ramanaiah
The College authorities felt the need to have a modern auditorium. Accordingly, Andhra Pradesh Medical Services Infrastructure Development Corporation (APMSIDC) has prepared estimates and sent to the government for approval. The Director of Medical Education has sanctioned the amount of Rs 17.5 lakh to be spent from the College Development Society (CDS) funds with the approval of the Collector and CDS Chairman.
With the sanctioned amount, mainly the seating in the auditorium will be changed completely to provide modern and comfortable seats. Flush doors, fixed standing pedestrian Air-Conditioners on the stage, white wash in and outside the auditorium and other civil works like controlling the seeping of rainwater from the roof etc. will be taken up. The College authorities were now in a dilemma as how to provide the projector, latest audio-visual equipment and good acoustics.
They are looking for philanthropists to provide them. SVMC Principal Dr NV Ramanaiah told The Hans India that many people were coming and offering donations for various amenities in the College as well as in the Hospital. But, they do not get Income Tax (IT) exemption under 80G here. “It became a hurdle to donors and we communicated to the IT officials and it is under active consideration,” he added.
It may be recalled that, the existing auditorium has 700 seating capacity. But the seats and other amenities were outdated, and the delegates often found it uncomfortable to sit for long hours during the conferences and meetings. The sound system in the auditorium was also of poor quality.
It has no modern audio-visual equipment. Several guest lectures and symposiums were being conducted in SVMC for medical students and faculty by the eminent personalities in the field. In the absence of good quality audio-visual equipment, the visiting dignitaries could not display various modern developments in a proper way. Thus, the college management has felt the need to renovate the auditorium completely to make it a modern one.
There are several other amenities needed for the college like lift, quarters for senior residents and PG students. The funds were already released about three months ago. Establishment of Skilled Lab with Rs 1.5 crore, Burns Ward with Rs 1.5 crore and Black Top roads with Rs 10 lakh were also pending. The Principal said that the funds were ready and APMSIDC will take up the works soon.
