Hyderabad: Sixteen school children were injured when a lorry hit their bus at Aliabad-Majidguda junction on Rajiv Rahadari under Shameerpet police limits on Sunday morning. The students were of second to fifth standard of government primary school in Sircilla and were on their way to Hyderabad on an excursion to visit Charminar, Golconda Fort and Zoo park, when the accident took place.

According to the police, driver of the bus Linga Reddy dozed off and failed to notice a truck which was taking U-turn and hit against it. The bus driver too sustained injuries and has been hospitalized.

The school children set out on their excursion at about 5 am at Sircilla and even before they could enter the city, they met with the tragedy. The students who sustained minor injuries were handed over to their parents who came here on learning about the mishap.

The police registered a case under section 337 IPC (rash and negligent driving) against the driver. The driver is under arrest though he is taking treatment at the hospital.
