Ongole: Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa said that sports help in improving discipline and sound health and thus in achieving greater heights in the career. Participating as the chief guest in the inauguration of 4th Andhra Pradesh inter-district Under-23 and Seniors Fencing Championship-2017 at PACE College of Engineering and Technology here on Monday, he said that the State government is encouraging sports by constructing stadia and appointing coaches.

The games from villages like kho kho, kabaddi and volleyball are becoming much popular now, he said and added fencing, which is must learn by the kings to protect their princely states, has become a game in the Olympics now. He said the present situation has changed enough that the parents are encouraging children to participate in the games.

He promised to conduct summer coaching camps for players interested in tennis, cricket and badminton and those who performed well in them are being sent to state and national-level coaching. He promised the government will honour the players who achieve national and international titles and cups and give land and other benefits like PV Sindhu.

MLA Damacharla Janardhanarao said the mini stadium being constructed with Rs 2.80 crore will be completed in three months. He assured that the stadium will be useful for indoor and outdoor games and thanked the Fencing Association for selecting Ongole to organise the State-level tournament.
