Tirupati: Officials have speeding up the Land Acquisition (LA) works for laying four-lane outer ring road to isolate the temple city from pilgrim vehicles coming to Tirumala.

The diversion of traffic will give a facelift to temple city. Six months ago, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had proposed Vaikuntamala Project, a four-lane outer ring road on the lines of outer ring road in Hyderabad, for providing better connectivity to Tirumala for pilgrims coming in vehicles.

The pilgrim city will get a new look once the Vaikuntamala Project becomes reality. The Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA), the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the TTD are jointly laying the 100-km outer ring road around the Tirupati. Recently, officials have conducted a detailed survey on land requirement for Vaikuntamala Project. The NHAI has already begun acquiring required land and is preparing tenders to call bidders for laying ring road.

The TTD started laying the road from Alipiri to Bengaluru bypass road via SV Zoo Park and Cherlopalli crossroads. The TUDA surveyors have been marking the sites at Cherlopalli for laying 150 feet road. As per the blueprint, the ring road will connect Renigunta Airport to Alipiri via Karakambadi, Sarovar Hotel, forest office and Nandi Circle.

Another connectivity is in between Alipiri and Bengaluru bypass road via SV Zoo Park and Cherlopalli crossroads. Another stretch start from Cherlopalli crossroads via Daminedu, Gajulamandyam Junction to Renigunta Airport.

Two days ago, District Collector PS Pradyumna, TTD Tirupati JEO Pola Bhaskar, Municipal Corporation of Tirupati Commissioner Ch Hari Kiran and Sub Collector Nishant Kumar have inspected the proposed ring road areas at Cherlopalli and Chandragiri bypass roads. They decided to speed up the ring road works.

The main objectivity of the Vaikuntamala Project is that pilgrim vehicles coming from Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madanapalle, Anantapur and other places can go to Tirumala directly via ring road bypassing the Tirupati. The city roads can be decongested once the ring road becomes operational and reduces the air pollution in the temple city.
