Telugu Nadu Trade Union Congress affiliated Krishna Hessian Staff and Workers Union wins election
Krishna Hessian Staff and Workers Union (KSHWU) affiliated to Telugu Nadu Trade Union Congress (TNTUC) won the elections for gaining recognition as a union at Sri Krishna Hessian Mill in Kotturu on Tuesday.
Eluru: Krishna Hessian Staff and Workers Union (KSHWU) affiliated to Telugu Nadu Trade Union Congress (TNTUC) won the elections for gaining recognition as a union at Sri Krishna Hessian Mill in Kotturu on Tuesday.
The election to get recognition, which is also called as a process of verification was conducted by labour department officials here on Tuesday. In this election, Krishna Hessian Staff and Workers Union defeated the recognised union, Hessian Mazdoor Union affiliated to IFTU by a margin of 578 votes.
This is third win to TNTUC after the opening of the Jute Mill in Kotturu in Pedapadu mandal near Eluru city. The CITU affiliated KHSWU stood in the third place.
The voting for recognition was started in the morning and as many as 21,269 voters were registered with the labour department of which 2,044 voters turned up for voting.
Deputy Commissioner of Labour M Rama Rao was the returning officer in the election. After polling, the labour department officials took up counting of votes. In the counting, the TNTUC affiliated union got 1,200 votes whereas the present recognised union IFTU affiliated Mazdoor Union got only 622, whereas the CITU affiliated workers union had to contend with 210 votes. The TNTUC had got a majority of 578 against the presently recognised union.
The Deputy Commissioner of Labour Rama Rao announced the results during the night on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the IFTU thanked the jute workers who voted for them in large numbers.
The IFTU stated that since 2002, it has won recognition four times and entered signed several agreements with the management favouring the workers. It has stated that the IFTU had won thrice from 2004 to 2010 in the three consecutive elections.
The TNTUC was elected as a recognised union after the inception of the Jute Mill in Kotturu during 2002 against the CITU. Later, in the fifth verification in 2013, the TNTUC won against the IFTU. In the sixth verification in 2015 again the IFTU won the recognition.
The TNTUC won the third time in 2017 elections to be recognised as union. With this win, the TNTUC had recorded the third win in the mill. Meanwhile, the IFTU leaders alleged that the TNTUC enticed the jute workers. Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao (Bujji) and TDP cadres were bridged at the mill campaign in favour of the TNTUC.
As a result, the mill verification became a general election. There are allegations that money and liquor also flown to attract the workers besides distribution of sarees to the women workers.
