Vijayawada: Rajya Sabha member K V P Ramachandra Rao on Wednesday urged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to file a counter in the High Court on Centre’s responsibility in the construction of Polavaram project. He also wanted the AP Chief Minister to inform the court about the discrimination of the Centre on the project.

In a letter to Naidu, the MP said it seems that Naidu was hell bent upon to damage the state financially as he remained a mute spectator while the Centre has been violating the AP Reorganisation Act. The AP CM could not sell the Polavaram project to the Centre like he did in the case of Heritage Group, he said.

The MP said that though the High Court wanted the AP government to file a counter affidavit on the project, the officials did not do so. The court would take up the case again on December 19. Ramachandra Rao alleged that Naidu was evading answers on the demand to release a white paper on Polavaram project.

Several political parties, including Jana Sena, have demanded the whitepaper, he said and wanted to know why the AP government agreed to a condition imposed by the Centre that it would calculate the project cost on the basis of rates existed on April 1, 2014.

The people want to know by what time the project would be completed and only a whitepaper could answer it, he said. The MP alleged that the AP government has created confusion on the project by raising the cost of construction substantially, without taking permission from the Centre.
