Vijayawada: The annual five-day Bhavani Deeksha Viramana concluded peacefully on Thursday at Kanaka Durga temple on Indrakeeladri. Thousands of devotees thronged the temple on the final day. The rush of Bhavanis was started early in the morning and continued till night.

The officials estimated that around four lakh Bhavanis flocked to Durga temple for relinquishment of Deeksha. Earlier, the officials have expected six lakh devotees would attend and made elaborate arrangements accordingly.

To mark the end of Deeksha, the temple priests performed Poornahuti on Indrakeeladri at 11 am on Thursday. Holy homam was also performed with sandalwood pieces, ghee, flowers as part of the viramana. According to temple executive officer A Surya Kumar nearly six lakh laddus were sold in the 20 counters arranged at the temple.

Security was tightened in and around the temple for five days to prevent any untoward incident and nearly 2,000 volunteers extended their services. The temple administration made arrangements to continue services two or three more days as devotees from other states and faraway places like Srikakulam would attend the temple for relinquishment from December 15 to 17.
