Indian Society of Veterinary Surgery symposium proposes cancer registry for animals
SVIMS Director-cum-Vice-Chancellor Dr TS Ravikumar stressed on the need for cancer registry to animals. He inaugurated 41st Annual Congress of Indian Society of Veterinary Surgery (ISVS) and national symposium on ‘New Horizons in Cancer Research Pertaining to Effect on Health, Production and Reproduction in Animals’ on Thursday.Â
Tirupati: SVIMS Director-cum-Vice-Chancellor Dr TS Ravikumar stressed on the need for cancer registry to animals. He inaugurated 41st Annual Congress of Indian Society of Veterinary Surgery (ISVS) and national symposium on ‘New Horizons in Cancer Research Pertaining to Effect on Health, Production and Reproduction in Animals’ on Thursday.
Ravikumar participated as chief guest for the 3-day symposium being organised by ISVS at SVVU here from December 14 to 16. Addressing the gathering, the SVIMS Director said that there is robust information available about cancers in humans through cancer registries. Such information is not available related to cancers in animals, he added.
Sri Venkateswara Veterinary University (SVVU) Vice-Chancellor Dr Y Hari Babu said, for the first time in India, a cancer registry for animals was proposed in the symposium. Overall 335 abstracts and 200 posters were submitted to the conference and 60 research papers were presented on the first day of the 3-day symposium. 450 delegates from various veterinary universities across India are participating in the conference. The SVVU has launched its Journal of Animal Health Production and Technology in the symposium.
Tamil Nadu Veterinary University V-C and ISVS President S Thilagar, SVVU Director Research Dr E Raghava Rao, Dean of Veterinary Science TS Chandrasekhar Rao and Associate Dean Dr K Nalini Kumari were present. The symposium was organised by Prof RV Suresh
Kumar.
