The city police arrested nine members of a gang for their alleged involvement in Kalidas Subramanyam alias Vemuri Subbu’s murder. The rowdy-sheeter Subbu was murdered at Machavaram in broad daylight in the city on December 6.

Vijayawada: The city police arrested nine members of a gang for their alleged involvement in Kalidas Subramanyam alias Vemuri Subbu’s murder. The rowdy-sheeter Subbu was murdered at Machavaram in broad daylight in the city on December 6.

According to police, all the accused were arrested with the help of CCTV footage. The police produced the accused before the media here on Friday. Addressing a press conference, Police Commissioner Gowtham Sawang said the nine members were involved in Subramanyam's murder due to group rivalry.

The arrested were identified as G Balabhaskar, Nukalapati Arun Kumar, Samudrala Pavan Kumar, Kamepalli Lakshmaiah, Addanki Sudhakar, Thomati Nagaraju, G Surendra all hailing from Ithanagar in Tenali in Guntur district. D Vajarala Babu of Amrathaluru village and Mohammed Galib of Telaprolu also belong to the same district. Except Arun Kumar and Galib all the arrested are rowdy-sheeters.

Kalidas Subramanyam hailed from Tenali and he had shifted to Vijayawada in view of rivalry with the gang. Actually, Subbu’s brother Kalidas Satyam had murdered one Medisetty Krishna at Tenali bus station in 2014 as part of gang rivalry. Later, Kalidas Satyam was also murdered at Duggirala in Guntur district in 2015 by one G Surendra and some others gang members were involved in the murder.

Since then, both Kalidas Subramanyam and rival gang members hatched plans to take revenge against each other. But finally, Subramanyam was murdered by taking the help from local mechanic Galib by the rival gang. He had provided shelter to the gang members. The police recovered four motor cycles, six knives and one cell phone from their possession which were used in the murder.

The Police Commissioner said that 10 police teams were involved in unravelling the murder mystery. Especially, CCTV footage helped them to crack the case, he said.
