Amaravati: The State government is going to submit clarifications to the remarks of Central Water Commission (CWC) regarding revised estimations of Polavaram Irrigation Project (PIP) by December 21. After resubmitting the report, a team of AP engineers will visit New Delhi and give clarifications to the CWC in this regard.

Speaking to The Hans India, Principal Secretary to Water Resources department Shashi Bhushan Kumar said there were no differences between the CWC and AP Water Resources department with regard to preparing revised estimations for Polavaram project. “It is all going on as per established process. We have sent the revised estimations in August.

As the CWC has eight directorates, the copies of revised estimates were sent to all of them. Some of the directors have sent back the estimates seeking some remarks and clarifications as part of the clearance process. We have received two sets from the CWC, one in September and the other in November. We will submit replies to the remarks by December 21,” he said.

The Central Water Commission is currently scrutinising the revised estimates of Rs 58,319.06 crore and it has sought some clarifications. “As per revised estimations, Rs 4,205.66 crore is required for power house, Rs 11,637.98 crore for head water works and Rs 33,858.45 crore for land acquisition and R&R,” he said.

He also said that the CWC is known for following due process and does not clear any estimate in less than one year. “They send back any estimation at least 4 to 5 rounds,” he said. Shashi Bhushan Kumar also said they were advised by Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to send a team of officials to Delhi to give clarifications after sending the report from AP which would reduce further delay in the process.

Shashi Bhushan Kumar said Nitin Gadkari set a target of 7,000 cubic metres of concrete work per day to Transstroy for the next month after making some calculations. The Minister also made it clear that the Transstroy would be given one month time to improve its performance failing which part of the work would be entrusted to another subcontractor.

He also said that Nitin Gadkari gave permission to Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) to move its headquarters as soon as possible to Rajamahendravaram from Hyderabad.
