Pithapuram: The Pithapuram Council on Friday expressed its ire over the delay in taking up development works. The members objected to single tenders for various works, despite Deputy EE Prabhakar giving clarifications. Chairman Karanam Chinna Rao presided over the meeting.

Councillor Nama Dorababu pointed out that the council had resolved not to entertain single tender agenda, while questioning officials why it was being introduced in every meeting. He claimed that if the single tenders were accepted people would lose confidence in councillors.

Other members also raised objection to the single tenders. The DEE explained that the tenders were introduced to ensure that there was no delay in the works. Dorababu expressed anger that works approved in 2015 were still pending. The DEE replied that they would be taken up soon. He attributed the delay to preparation of estimates.

Duggada Vijayalakshmi complained of severe water shortage in her ward. She demanded the council hall should be named after former Lok Sabha Speaker G M C Balayogi as it was resolved earlier. Khandavilli Subba Rao sought to know the steps taken on his complaint of the missing municipal chairs and other items.

Venum Suresh brought to the notice of members flow of sewerage on Cinema Centre Road. He complained that the drain work was abruptly stopped. Suresh demanded rebuilding of dilapidated Rajiv Gandhi Municipal High School. Members wanted the Ambedkar statue in council compound should be beautified. Among those present in the meeting were Commissioner M Rammohan and other officials.
