Ongole: Police busted a gang which offered jobs in Zilla Parishad and its allied offices through a fake website and cheated nearly 75 people by collecting Rs 1lakh from each. Police recovered Rs 32 lakh cash and seized documents of a property bought with the money collected from the candidates.

According to Superintendent of Police Bhusarapu Satya Yesubab, Shaik Khasim Vali alias Khasim of Papinenipalli village in Ardhaveedu mandal had worked as a driver with Edara Haribabu, when he is an MLA of Ongole. Now Haribabu is the Chairman of Prakasam Zilla Parishad. To cash in on the old contacts, Khasim boasted with locals that he is a close aide of Zilla Parishad Chairman and he can get any job in the Zilla Parishad.

He included Dudekula Khasim Saheb of Papinenipalle, Shaik Khasim of Bestavaripet and Shaik Khasim Peera of Papinenipalle as the members of the gang. They created a fake website of Zilla Parishad and attracted unemployed youth in the name of recruitment drive. They made everyone apply through it to show that everything is going on as per the guidelines.

Then they fixed the price of each job at Rs 3 lakh and demanded Rs 1lakh as advance and collected almost Rs 75 lakh from 75 people. The scam came to light when a few candidates who paid the money approached the ZP CEO with the fake appointment orders.

Based on a complaint from the ZP CEO, the police arrested 11 people, including the web designer, rubber stamp vendors, fake letter head makers, along with the master brains. The Superintendent of Police said, “The ASI of Giddalur Paul Raju passed on the information related to the inquiry to the accused and tried to deviate the officers. We included him as the accused in the case.

He and one minor who forged the signatures of various officials on the fake appointment letters and call letters are at large. We are asking the public to never offer money for any job or government service and never fall prey to such gangs.”

The SP said that the police recovered 31.75 lakh cash, registration documents of a land that bought with the money collected in the scam, along with the tools and computers from the accused.
