Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy categorically said that they would consider constructing second port in the State either at Dugarajapatnam in Nellore or at Ramayapatnam in Prakasam with permission from the Central government.
Nellore: Agriculture Minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy categorically said that they would consider constructing second port in the State either at Dugarajapatnam in Nellore or at Ramayapatnam in Prakasam with permission from the Central government.
He participated in local programmes here on Friday. Speaking at a meeting in Kothur in Indukurpet mandal, Somireddy said that Nellore has a lot of scope for developing into a hub in several sectors as it is having road, rail and water connectivity and also with the proposed airport at Dagadarthi.
He also said that they would utilise 20 tmcft of water from Pothireddypadu Reservoir to cater to the irrigation requirements of the farming sector. The Minister also informed that measures would be taken to re-open the Kovur Sugars with the support of donors which was under co-operative sector.
The Agriculture Minister visited special grievance cell at Zilla Parishad High school at Kothur village in Indukurpet mandal and distributed cheque for Rs 1.55 cr to 72 self-help groups and also handed over cheques to beneficiaries of Chandranna Bima and tractors to the beneficiaries under Rythu Ratham scheme.
He along with MLC B Ravichandra inaugurated the agriculture office at Kothur, which was constructed at a cost of Rs.10 lakh. He pointed out that there was a growth rate of 25.6 per cent in agriculture sector in the State while it has been around 5 per cent in several other States. A Seed Development Corporation would be set up in Kurnool in around 650 acres at an estimated cost of Rs 680 cr as per the MoU signed with the Iowa University, he said.
A special cell would be set up to issue certificates to the disabled persons at only one place, said the Minister. Somireddy said that they would distribute new ration cards, Deepam gas connections, social security pensions and houses to the poor during the Janmabhoomi programme in January. He also stressed the need for protecting the environment by planting saplings.
Though the State government has been facing financial crisis there was no negligence in implementing welfare schemes to the poor, said MLC B.Ravi Chandra. Kovur MLA P.Srinivasulu Reddy presided over the meeting. Nellore RDO D Haritha, DRDA Project Director Lavanyaveni and others were present.
