The leaders garlanded the statue of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi opposite office of the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT). Later, they distributed sweets and fired crackers. Speaking on the occasion, Sridevi expressed hope that Rahul Gandhi will safeguard the secularism, democracy and communal harmony in the country.
With the young leader assuming charge of the Congress party a new era has begun in the party. By saying that the party was committed towards giving Special Category Status to the state, Rahul has indicated his attitude towards Andhra Pradesh. She expressed hope that the party will return to power in 2019.

Nellore: District Congress Committee (DCC) led by Dr Panabaka Krishnaiah has organised celebrations on Saturday in city in connection with Rahul Gandhi taking charge as new national President of Congress.
They took out a huge rally with pomp and gaiety with 60 feet tricolour banner as token of merriment from VR College Centre to Indira Bhavan in which hundreds of party workers participated.
They enjoyed with crackers and sweets at the office sharing their happiness. Dr P Krishnaiah, who organised the event, appealed to the cadre and city population to support Rahul Gandhi for becoming Prime Minister in the upcoming general polls.
This would relieve the people from dictatorial rule of BJP-led NDA and also to protect democratic values. He assured that Rahul Gandhi would sign on the first file of approving Dugarajapatnam Port and also Special Category Status to the state.
Senior party leaders Ch Devakumar Reddy, CV Sesha Reddy, Chenchalbabu Yadav, Balasudhakar and others were present.
Vempalle (Kadapa): District Congress Committee (DCC) General Secretary T Subramanyam said Congress will come to power in the next general elections and Rahul Gandhi will become the Prime Minister.
On the occasion of Rahul Gandhi elected party’s national president, the Congress leaders distributed sweets and fruits to people here on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, Subramanyam said Congress has glorious past spanning over 132 years. Rahul Gandhi is the 64th president of the party, he added.
DCC Vice-President Chenna Keshava said that the Congress attained independence to the country. It is striving to build modern India, he added. Congress leaders Narasimha Reddy, Rama Krishna, Ramanjaneya Reddy, Ravi, Prasad, Harish, Kasim Saab, Obul Reddy, P Srinivasulu and others were present.
