East Godavari District Collector Karthikeya Mishra has planned to take the district to number one position in the implementation of the Weaker Section Housing scheme and the NREGS. Hitherto, the district has been figuring among the first three positions at the State level in implementation of the two schemes.

Talking to The Hans India on Monday, Mishra said that he opted for civil services out of love for public service. He said that he was inspired by his freedom fighter grandfather’s tales of public service.

Upon graduation in engineering, he pursued higher education in IIT and later appeared for the Civil Services examination. First, he was appointed as Sub-Collector of Paderu and also at Bodhan. He subsequently worked as become Industries Department Director. He has a penchant for sports and games. Personally, he plays table tennis and hockey; occasionally, he plays cricket.

He finds playing with children as a major stress buster. Whenever he spots children, he gives them chocolates. His accessibility made him even closer to the people of the district.

He feels proud to have been posted in the biggest district in Andhra Pradesh. To live up to the expectations of his superiors, he works hard according to a plan.

He focused attention on Tourism promotion and Industrialisation of the district, which earned the reputation of rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh.
On Mondays, he holds meetings with prospective industrialists to speed up establishing industries.

He effectively implemented Palle Nidra programme for accelerated resolution of problems in villages. The District Collector on one hand, gets tough with government servants who skip work and on the other, pats on the back of officials who work sincerely.
