Rajamahendravaram: Nannaya University vice-chancellor Prof Murru Mutyala Naidu underlined the need to eradicate open-defecation in the state as well as in the country, which is the need of the hour.

Addressing a huge gathering of students at Pushkar Ghat here on Monday, Prof Mutyala Naidu said many countries which are not having water facility were opposing ODF and it is pity to note that ODF is continuing in our country which had developed in all fronts.

“Eradication of ODF helps in building a healthy and strong society and it is the duty of every citizen, mainly students to create awareness among the people in this regard. Nannaya University is conducting many awareness programmes in this regard,” he added. East Godavari district is going to be declared ODF-free district shortly and it is the time to all to rise to the occasion, he said.

Earlier, a huge rally was flagged off at government college which concluded at Pushkara Ghat passing through Kambala tank, Devichowk and Gokavaram bus station. University NSS co-ordinator Dr N Kiran Chandra, ODF officer Dr PS Varma, teaching, non-teaching staff and students participated.
