Vijayawada: The canal bunds in the city are now changing into walking tracks and parks. The total outlook of canal bunds has been transformed due to the ongoing city beautification project.

Till now, half of the canal bunds beautification project has been completed while the remaining works were stopped midway due to political interference. Totally, the city canal bunds are turning as walking tracks and parks soon for public utility purpose.

The canal bunds in the city are now more attractive from recent beautification works like planting of greenery. Saplings have been planted near several canal bunds at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Bus Station, old government hospital, old bus station, Raghavaiah Park and Hanumanpetto enhance the greenery. Benches have been setup for sitting and walking zones have also been provided on the canal bunds.

Significantly, the local body officials developed a park with various kinds of waste materials. Now, the park on the canal bund, which has been setup at the police control room with waste materials is drawing the attention of citizens. Similarly, the canal bund is made as walking track at old government hospital.

Already, the people of various colonies are using walking tracks, which were setup already at roadsides in the stretch from Benz Circle to Ramavarapadu. The people of the city were not interested in using the tracks but now those are visibly with full of response from various nearby colonies.

Horticulture Department Technical Officer T Shivaram said that greenery would be developed totally on canal bunds. He also said the canal bunds would attract the citizens in future to spend the evenings with their family members.
