Kurnool: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) DSP Jayaram Raju, on Monday, has said the Magistrate of Excise Court has sentenced a complainant to one-year imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 3,000 for giving false witness statement.

The DSP said that the complainant O Srinivasulu of Kothapalli gave false witness to save the Revenue Inspector (RI) Vishnu Prasad and Village Revenue Officer (VRO) Dasthagiri from facing jail imprisonment.

Both the RI and the VRO are accused in a bribery case. They were booked for taking bribe of Rs.10,000 for issuing pattadar pass books in 2012 from the complainant O Srinivasulu. While the case is pending in the court, the tainted officers had urged the complainant to save them from the case, he said.

With the request of the officers, the complainant O Srinivasulu has given false witness in the court and in favour of the officers. The court after observing O Srinivasulu’s statement, gave verdict of one-year imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 3,000.

The DSP says that whoever tries to give false witness to save the persons booked under bribery case would be sent to jail after filing forgery case against them.
