Srikakulam: The ongoing rift among the two groups of TDP leaders has intensified with the recent Palakonda incident in the district. From the beginning, there are two groups in the district TDP. One group belonging to Minister for Energy and party state president K Kala Venkata Rao and other group, the followers of Minister for Transport K Atchannaidu.

Till Kala Venkata Rao assumed office as Minister for Energy, Atchannaidu was the only Minister and he used to maintain grip over the district administration. At that time, Venkata Rao was unable to dominate Atchannaidu though he is the district TDP president and his followers did not get any work done by officials despite acting one side at that time and even as they did not pay attention towards issues of Kala’s group.

After taking charge as Minister for Energy, Minister Kala Venkata Rao started focusing on administrative affairs in the district which is causing inconvenience to the members of Atchannaidu group. Recently, the district officials cancelled permission for sand ramp at Muddada village in Nagavali river in Etcherla mandal following alleged directions of minister for energy and subsequently mines and geology officials seized two lorries along with huge quantities of sand.

The ramp was allotted to Minister Atchannaidu’s followers Ch Narayana Murthy and others of Etcherla mandal leaders without informing Minister Kala Venkata Rao as he is representing from Etcherla segment as MLA. Two days back in Palakonda town and its surrounding villages, the Energy Minister inaugurated the development works without inviting leaders of the Atchannaidu group.

Irked over the developments, leaders belonging to Atchannaidu group, Gummadi Simhadri, Samanthula Damodar and others opposed it and complained to party top leaders. Palakonda municipality 17 the ward councilor Gummadi Simhadri staged a dharna at Pothula Gedda Bridge with the women of his municipal ward which was inaugurated by Venkata Rao as it is situated in his ward. District party office is collecting information regarding these recent developments to submit a report to the TDP high command.
