Vijayawada: Minister for rural housing and Information and public relations Kalava Srinivasulu said on Tuesday that the government had accorded administrative sanction for construction of 1,86, 995 houses in the rural areas as against the target of two lakh houses sanctioned for the financial year 2017-18.

The minister held a meeting with the housing department officials at the office of AP Housing Corporation at Tadepalli in Guntur district where he reviewed the progress of the houses under construction. Special officers, project directors and other officials attended the review meeting.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister asked the officials to begin the groundwork for starting the construction of houses for this financial year. Referring to the houses allotted for the year 2016-17, Srinivasulu said 1.86 lakh houses were at various stages of construction.

Stating that the government sanctioned two lakh houses for the year 2016-17 and asked the officials to complete at least 80 per cent works by January, 2018. Making it clear that the government would not tolerate negligence in execution of works, he suggested grading system to assess the performance of engineers in execution of works.

Srinivasulu said the state government had sanctioned one lakh houses for 2015-16, and the figure was increased to two lakhs from the subsequent year. The government would sanction another two lakh houses for 2018-19 FY with the objective of providing housing for all under the PMAY (Prime Minister Awas Yojana) scheme, he added.

AP Housing Corporation managing director Kantilal Dande stressed the need for the accountability of the officials. He said the project directors should take the responsibility in the districts. Superintendent Ch Mallikarjuna Rao, general manager S Sainath, Y Uday Bhaskar, Ch Pratap and project directors of 13 districts attended the review meeting.
