Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had announced of developing Tirupati as city of lakes. There are 10 lakes in and around pilgrim city. The civic officials are chalking out plans to develop these lakes under the Smart Cities Project.

Two days ago, representatives of China based company ‘BOSSCO’ have explained the functioning of the latest water treatment technology through powerpoint presentation to civic body officials at TUDA office.

The company using anaerobic carbon reactor technology for treating polluted water. MCT Commissioner Ch Hari Kiran is examining the proposal submitted by the China company for treating wastewater of Vinayaka Sagar.

The Chinese firm quoted Rs 4 to 6 crore for cleaning the Vinayak Sagar. The water body is located on Karakambadi-Tirupati road. The civic body aims to develop the lake as highway side tourist spot for locals and pilgrims to spend leisure time.

At present, the lake is filled up with mud, drainage water and plastic waste. The anaerobic carbon reactor technology can separate the pollution particles from water effectively. It is a mini machine and it can be transported wherever it is required.

As per the instructions of civic body chief, engineering officials are preparing the Expression of Interest (EoI) notification to invite companies before this month end for the treatment of polluted water bodies.

Earlier, an Indian company with the US collaboration also came forward to clean the water bodies in temple city. Officials are examining the proposals submitted by both companies and their technical expertise as same technology will be used for cleaning 5 more lakes under the limits of TUDA.

District Collector PS Pradyumna had inspected the water bodies twice and instructed the officials of Irrigation, TTD, TUDA, and MCT to develop the water bodies with pleasant ambiance and vegetation. Speaking to The Hans India, MCT engineer Chandrasekhar stated the cleaning of Vinayaka Sagar would be taken up soon once the proposals are approved.
