Vijayawada: After the brutal murder of a petty vendor (noodle seller) Ch Venkateswara Raju by blade batch gang on Sunday near Raghavendra theatre at Ayodhya Nagar, the city police decided to keep a tight vigil on the movement of notorious offenders at Ajit Singh Nagar area, RR Pet, New RR Pet, Ayodhya Nagar, Ramakrishna Puram and other parts of the city. Nearly, 100 rowdies, suspects and blade batch members are living in these areas.

Now, the police decided to ask the blade batch, rowdies and suspects to visit the police station after 8 pm every day for regular attendance. The murder of Ch Venkateswara Raju,55, on Sunday night has once again highlighted the need to keep a close watch on the movement of anti-social elements, who can attack any person at any time to rob money in isolated areas, along the railway tracks and canal bunds in the city.

These gangs choose these areas for consumption of ganja or liquor. If they notice single pedestrian, they demand money and try to rob mobile phones, watch and other valuable. If the victims resist, they will attack mercilessly by these gangs. Venkateswara Raja opposed to their demand and was brutally murdered. He went to the canal bund to attend nature’s call and fall prey to the three members gang.

In Vijayawada city, dozens of people were injured in the attacks of blade batch gangs in recent years. But, first time, a murder was recorded on Sunday under the Ajit Singh police station limits. Though the police arrest these anti-social elements, they again come out of jail on bail and resume the same activity.

Sometimes, these gangs consume liquor and ganja under Ajit Singh Nagar bridge, near Madhuranagar over-bridge, Nizam Gate Junction in Wynchpet, Old Government Hospital Road, parts of Gandhi Nagar and in some areas of Old and New RR Pet.

After the murder on Sunday night, the police department has decided to ask the irrigation department officials to remove the thick bushes and trees along the Budameru karakatta to prevent the misuse of the area by anti-social elements for consumption of ganja. Similarly, the local residents in these affected areas are asking the VMC to install adequate street lights so that these gangs don’t use the area for wrong purposes.
