Tirupati: The Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) recently entered a MoU with Commissioner of Agriculture of AP and consortium of NGOs to take up the Andhra Pradesh Drought Mitigation Project (APDMP) in selected districts, said the General Secretary of RASS and Executive Director S Venkataratnam here on Tuesday.

The State government secured Rs 550 crore from International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) as a loan and equal amount will be met by NABARD, MNREGS and other schemes to implement APDMP in the districts of Chittoor, Kadapa, Anantapur, Kurnool and Prakasam districts.

RASS is one of the selected lead agency to implement through district administration and line departments with the consortium of Praja Pragati Trust (PPT), Pragathi, Council for Rural Enlightenment (CRE) to implement this programme in 12 mandals of the western part of the district with 3 gram panchayats in each mandal.

Accordingly, the RASS has commenced the activities by interacting with district and local officials to take their support in order to achieve the goals of improved crop production system, improved livestock production and strengthen the farmers organisation. Project Director Dr Mohan also took part.
