Amaravati: The stone crusher units are reportedly causing the maximum pollution in the state.Minister for forests and environment Sidda Raghava Rao directed the officials to issue notices to all the highest pollution emitting stone crusher companies in the State, during a review meeting held on Tuesday with the AP Pollution Control Board officials at the Secretariat.

The minister was serious over the negligent attitude of officials concerned, who did not take action against the highest pollution emitting companies apart from the stone crushers in the state.

The minister directed the officials to cancel the permissions of the companies if they failed to respond to the notices and reduce the pollution emission levels.

A total of 6,285 industries have been emitting pollution across the state, informed the officials with the minister during the meeting.

The government has divided them into four categories including Red, Orange, Green and White based on their pollution emitting capacity.

In the Red category, the high level pollution emitting companies are 2,295 which include thermal and cement units, bulk drugs and others.

There are 3,253 industries categorised under the Orange category, i.e. medium level pollution emitting companies like cotton, spinning and others.

Low level pollution emitting companies are 676 which are placed under the Green category, like medical oxygen, rubber goods, ready mix concrete and others. At the same time, only 61 companies are placed under the White category which emit very minimum pollution, explained the officials.

Sidda Raghava Rao directed the officials to take appropriate action against the companies which are not disposing of their waste.

Reacting on e-waste, the Minister suggested to officials to come up with detailed project report for further action against the pollution emitting companies.
