Tirupati: Students can emerge as multi-talented when they show talent in sports and games, said Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) Vice-Chancellor (V-C) A Damodaram here on Monday, while participating as chief guest for inaugural of the five-day south zone inter-varsity tennis tournament.

He exhorted students to play sports and games for keeping themselves fit physically and mentally. Damodaram stated that the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) has given the SVU an opportunity to conduct the prestigious south zone inter-varsity tennis competition. He further said the AIU has been conducting zonal and national-level sport meet for students of universities every year.

Special Branch DSP NTV Ram Kumar, who was special invite for tennis tournament, said that everyone should practice any sport of their choice every day to lead a healthy life. “Playing sports will help the students to reach their goals in life,” he added. The DSP stated he won gold medal in tennis doubles in the World Police Games held in the USA with constant practice.

SVU Physical Education Director Krishnamurthy informed that around 250 tennis players from 51 universities of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Telangana are participating in the 5-day tennis tourney. SVU Rector Macha Bhaskar, Assistant Director A Giridhar Raju, coaches and other staff were present.
