Visakhapatnam: Taking a serious note on the attack on SC woman Durgamma, National SC Commission directed the Revenue officials to pay Rs 8 lakh as compensation and 25 per cent of the money tonight itself to the victim.

The Commission also directed the district administration to sanction loan for her livelihood from the SC Corporation and also provide a job to one of her children.

Member of National SC Commission K Ramulu on Thursday visited the Jerripothulapalem village in Pendurthy mandal and inquired into the Tuesday’s attack on Durgamma. The member also visited the land where the SC woman was assaulted and injured by alleged TDP leaders.

Speaking on the occasion, Ramulu said that the then government had allotted the land to 14 Dalit families 40 years ago. However, the government again allotted the same land to others which led to the dispute.

The SC Commission member also directed Revenue Divisional Officer, Visakhapatnam to cancel the latest allotments of the land to the others and should ensure that the 14 Dalit families enjoy the land.

The member assured to the Dalit beneficiaries that the Commission would solve the issue and write a letter to the Principal Secretary to intervene into the issue immediately.

Former Minister Pasupuleti Balaraju and former Amalapuram MP Harsha Kumar were present during the member’s visit and explained him about the incident. DCP T Ravi Kumar Murthy and RDO Venkateswarlu accompanied the member.
