Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) made elaborate arrangements for a 13-day SARAS Fair-2017, an exhibition of crafts by rural artisan, which will begin from December 22 here at Andhra University Engineering College grounds. This is for the second time that SERP is organising a national-level SARAS fair in the city.

Visakhapatnam: Society for Elimination of Rural Poverty (SERP) made elaborate arrangements for a 13-day SARAS Fair-2017, an exhibition of crafts by rural artisan, which will begin from December 22 here at Andhra University Engineering College grounds. This is for the second time that SERP is organising a national-level SARAS fair in the city.

The first SARAS fair was held in December 2016 which SARAS (Sale of Articles of Rural Artisan Societies) is an initiative of the Government of India to provide a platform to the rural artisans to market their products through the expo.

The state government’s SERP, which is working with women self-help- groups and their federations is organising the exhibitions. This is the 19th SARAS, co-sponsored by NABARD, Andhra University, Andhra Bank, United Insurance of India and National Jute Board of India.

The SERP set up as many as 300 stalls at the venue. In all, 1,000 artisans across the country arrived in the city, along with their products. Ahead of Christmas, New Year and Sankranti, the organisers are expecting huge sales.

Artisans from Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Goa, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are displaying their products in the exhibition. The SERP is also providing accommodation to the artisans during their 13-day stay in the city. The entry is free and expo will kept open from 10 am to 10 pm.
