Vijayawada: The experts of irrigation department and leaders of various political parties, including former Union Minister JD Seelam, former Minister Vadde Shobhanadreshwara Rao, YSR Congress MP YV Subba Reddy, Delta Parirakshana Samithi convener and president Erneni Nagendranath and Kolanukonda Sivaji participated in a round-table conference to discuss problems of Polavaram project while they formally agreed to unite, setting aside their political differences by involving themselves on the issues.

They also decided to form a committee with all political parties and experts to follow the developments on Polavaram project to sort out issues for the completion as per deadline. JD Seelam called upon the leaders to join hands cutting across the party lines for completion of Polavaram project as their right.

The governments should complete the project already as the then Union government had accorded national status for the project. He expressed displeasure on the developments of Polavaram project. The public only need to know how the project would be completed and not about politics of Telugu Desam and BJP, he pointed out.

MP YV Subba Reddy said his party was making all efforts to extend its support for the completion of the project as per the AP Reorganisation Act. He also said the MPs of his party would meet Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday. He demanded that the state government release white paper on Polavaram project. The government misused funds under this project, he alleged.

Former Agriculture Minister Vadde Shobhanadreswara Rao said the state government should take precautionary measures to complete the project without facing any controversies. He said that it is a lifeline project to the state. Delta Rytanga Samakkya president Erneni Nagendranath said that the delta farming section would face challenges if the project work was delayed. The state government should take precautionary measures by coordinating with officials and Union government, he added.

The official spokesperson of the AP Congress and meeting organiser Kolanukonda Sivaji urged the BJP and Telugu Desam Parties to involve all political parties in the issue relating to the Polavaram project. He said the project was an asset to the state.

Former Polavaram project superintending engineer V Raju said that the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) was one of the main hurdles for the cost escalation and delay of works. He said the government should have appointed three chief engineers to sort out issues relating to the project at various levels.

Social activist Anumolu Gandhi, YSR Congress leader Malladi Vishnu, Congress leaders D Muralimohana Rao, Akula Srinivasa Kumar, Meesala Rajeshwara Rao and several leaders were present.
