Kurnool: District Collector S Satyanarayana finally broke the silence on the excavations at Chennampalle Fort for the last nine days. The Collector, during a press conference at his camp office here on Thursday, has said that it was believed true that some valuable minerals were hidden beneath the dilapidated fort and to unearth them, the excavations were being carried out.

It is not a secret and the work was being carried out in a transparent manner, he stated. The District Collector says that several closed circuit (CC) cameras have been installed to record the entire process and security has been beefed up to safeguard the unearthed treasure. So far, some mortal remains of horses, elephant tusks, black soil and bricks of abnormal sizes were unearthed, he added.

Satyanarayana has said that there were no restrictions to visit the site. The media was always free to shoot the entire process and the common man was also allowed to visit the site, he added. The Archaeology Department was also informed about the excavations. The villagers of Thuggali, Maddikerrra, Peravali and Vajrakarur strongly believe that diamonds are abundantly available during the rainy season.

Responding to a volley of questions put by the media, the District Collector said that if any such a treasure was unearthed, then he would act as a custodian and the entire stock would be handed over government. In-Charge, District Revenue Officer Sasi Devi, Assistant Director for Mining and others were present.
