Visakhapatnam: The APCCIF organised an awareness programme on ZED (Zero Effect and Zero Defect) certification in association with Quality Council of India here on Thursday. Inaugurating the programme, the Chairman of AP Chambers of Commerce and Industry Federation (APCCIF), Visakhapatnam Zone, Pydah Krishna Prasad, said that the Zero Defect and Zero Effect Scheme operated by Quality Council of India which would create an ecosystem for competitive, quality and clean manufacturing, promote development of world class products and expand markets for MSMEs.

Elaborating about the ZED, Vice-President of APCCIF Dr K Kumar Raja said ZED scheme is an integrated and holistic certification system and praised the initiative of Prime Minister Namenda Modi for encouraging and giving thrust on quality concern to manufacturers of Indian industry.

QCI trainer TM Iyer Venkateshwar explained the key features and importance of ZED rating model. He said that ZED offers a holistic change from a tool for compliance to a source of competitiveness. “Operationally, it is meant to evolve from a total dependency on the inspection of the final product to correct defects.

The scheme is an extensive drive to create awareness on MSMEs about ZED manufacturing and motivate them for assessment of their enterprise for ZED and support them. After ZED assessment and adoption of proper tools, MSMEs could reduce wastages substantially, increase productivity, expand their market as IOPs, become vendors to CPSUs, have more IPRs, develop new products and processes,” Iyer said.

Master trainer of QCI V Ramana Murthy explained the process of getting Zed certification which would help the SME and major companies in getting the government and private orders. In order to become the preferred supplier to MNCs and availing bank loans, MSMEs must adhere to strict quality standards maintained by QCI, he added. Over 80 participants from the diverse sectors gained knowledge about successful adoption of measures for ZED certification programme.
