Nellore: BJP State general secretary S Suresh Reddy demanded the State government to construct DugarajapatnamPort without any delay. BJP activists staged a protest at Gandhi Statue Centre here on Saturday raising slogans against the State government for the inordinate delay in taking up the much-awaited port. Speaking to the media persons, Suresh Reddy alleged that State government had not allocated land for the port till now.

‘Though the Chief Minister had earlier announced that they would construct 13 ports across the State.
But why the construction of DugarajapatnamPort was neglected,’ asked the BJP leader. If DugarajapatnamPort is constructed in around 5,000 acres, it becomes fourth biggest port in the country, he added.

The BJP leader also alleged that Revenue authorities have announced that lands were available in the district to construct the port. But, district administration says that there were no lands available. He explained that the previous government at the Centre had incorporated the Port aspect after bifurcation in the Reorganisation Act.

‘Union Shipping Minister had announced that they would sanction Rs7, 088 crore for construction of the port when members of the Parliament questioned about this in the House,’ he said. There is a need to get the port sanctioned to the district which would help creating employment to the youth besides development of nearby Anantapur, Kadapa and Chittoor districts, he added.

He also warned that BJP would launch agitation demanding to construct DugarajapatnamPort if the issue is neglected. BJP district leaders Midathala Ramesh, RKrishnaiah, PRanga Reddy, PKoteswar Rao and others were present.
