Nellore: Municipal administration minister P Narayana informed that the Chief Minister N Chandrabbabu Naidu will inaugurate Penna and Sangam barrages in June 2018.

The minister inspected ongoing Penna Barrage works on Friday. Speaking to media persons, municipal minister said works of Rs 119 crore have been completed at the barrage.

He also explained that total estimation cost of the project is Rs 149 crore for 612 meters length barrage. Materials for installation of gates at the barrage have already reached to the site, he added. He said that there are only two walls left for construction at the end of the barrages.

“The Chief Minister had set a target to complete 26 projects with Rs 13,000 crore before December 31 across the state. Works of Penna and Sangam barrage have been going on fast pace,” said the minister. He explained that works of Sangam barrage would be completed by June 2018.

Water storage capacity would be increased significantly with these two projects for supporting irrigation needs of the farming activity, he said.He also inspected underground drainage and water works in 6 and 7 divisions in the city.

He informed that about 65 pc of works of UGD and water works have been completed in the city. “Water works would complete in April 2018 and will inaugurate the project during May. Works of UGG would complete in 2019,” he said.
