GVMC contractors demand bills clearance
Demanding that the GVMC authorities resolve their problems, members of Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) Contractors Association took out a rally and staged a dharna at Gandhi statue near GVMC building here on Thursday.

Speaking to the media, the association leaders said that authorities of the civic body need to sort out the issues that were noted in minutes of a meeting on December 1. It is learnt that GVMC Commissioner M Harinarayan and other officers had a meeting with the GVMC contractors on a range of issues, including clearance of bills and GST impact on ongoing works.
The members of the association pointed out that with roll out of GST they are bound to be burdened with nearly 30 per cent of taxes for the works they have been carrying out. Apart from this, with less supply of sand they have been paying Rs 15,000 extra for each load.
According to the association, there are 350 contractors working with GVMC. Claiming that GVMC was sitting on Rs 100 crore dues without clearing it, they demanded the civic body pay bills immediately.
