Eluru: Eluru MLA Badeti Kota Rama Rao (Bujji) said that the government will fix the unemployment stipend on the decision of majority of the people.

He was the chief guest at the district-level awareness meeting on the stipend to unemployed youth organised by Youth Services Department at the Collectorate on Friday.

Speaking at the meeting, MLA said that the government will take the opinions of majority people on the unemployment allowance and will fix the stipend according to the decision of the majority youth.

He said that draft guideline has been prepared by government in which it was proposed to give the stipend in the age group of 21 to 35 years. However, he stated that he will represent the government to give the stipend in the age group of 21 to 40 years. He suggested eligible youth should get the stipend.

Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) district secretary G Siva Kumar suggested that the government should give unemployed stipend to every eligible unemployed youth and it should be Rs 2,000 per month.

He suggested transparency in the implementation of the scheme. The DYFI stated that it is wrong to frame rules like marks, caste, religious preferences in sanctioning the stipend to the unemployed. According to government survey, Class X passed youth are about 34 lakh in the state and 30 lakh who passed Class X are jobless, he stated.

He demanded that the government give a stipend to all these youth. The DYFI opposed the proposal of Inter or ITI qualified unemployed only eligible rule.

Joint Collector-II MH Sheriff suggested to the unemployed youth to enrol their names online in the employment exchanges. MLC Ramu Surya Rao, Youth Services Officer Ch SubbiReddy, LDM K Surya Rao, TTDC Manager Krishna Reddy, BC welfare officer Pushpalatha and others participated in the meeting.
