Call to reduce maternal deaths

Tirupati: A review meeting on reducing maternal deaths was held at Ruia Hospital here on Saturday. AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishat (APVVP) Joint Commissioner Dr Jayachandra Reddy reviewed the maternal deaths in the district with the staff of all PHCs. As the first level of campaigning was completed already in the district, now the staff were directed to focus their attention on second and third levels.

In the second level, high risk groups will be identified and extend the required services to them. In the final stage, individual women with high risk will be counselled along with their family members.

If any patient is found anemic, she should go for blood transfusion, he said. By taking all precautionary steps through various measures and awareness campaigns, maternal deaths could be controlled at least by half, said Dr Jayachandra.
