Eluru: All-party leaders and workers staged a dharna in front of municipal corporation office here on Saturday demanding the corporation not to impose taxes in the name of Smart City.

The workers of CPI, CPM, CPI (ML)-New Democracy, Congress, BJP and YSRCP took out rallies in response to the call given by the all-party committee. Leaders of various parties except Telugu Desam Party (TDP) participated in the dharna.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders alleged that the municipal corporation is trying to impose tax burden on the people in the name of Smart City, Amrit and Swachh Bharat.
They demanded that the corporation remove the 13th point in the Municipal Council meeting agenda which aims at imposing taxation burden on the public.

They regretted that the municipal corporation is collecting money from the people to gather the garbage from the houses. “It is shame on the part of the corporation to collect the money for gathering garbage from the houses”, they criticised.

MLC Ramu Surya Rao condemned the corporation’s move to impose a burden of taxes on the people and demanded the corporation meeting not to accept the agenda point 13.

The leaders demanded the corporation not to give the playground of Edara Subbamma Devi High School to private persons. They also demanded the corporation not to fill up the Gajavallivari Cheruvu in One Town area.
