Visakhapatnam: With the State government’s decision to make grand arrangements for the three-day ‘Visakha Utsav’, an official festival of the government, the district administration has been making massive arrangements for the event.

The ‘Visakha Utsav’ will be organised on the beach from December 28 to 30. All the line departments including VUDA, GVMC, Revenue, Tourism, Endowments and Police departments have been fully engaged to conduct the event in a grand manner.

The State government directed the district administration to organise the event on par with the Brazilian Carnival. It also directed the administration to ensure that all important junction in the city were decked up with lights.

In order to attract tourists from the neighbouring districts, the district administration urged the hospitality industry, commercial establishments and shops to announce special trade discount in the name of ‘Visakha Utsav’ discounts.

Minister for Human Resources Development Ganta Srinivasa Rao said that various colours and cultural programmes would be organised between Novotel Hotel to VUDA Park on the beach front.

An international flower show would also be conducted at MGM Park located in the VUDA Park. All the replicas of important temples would also be setup in association with the concerned Devasthanams, the Minister added.

The district officials were holding discussions with various music maestros to conduct special programmes during the three day-event and inviting several celebrities to come and participate in the programme.

The programme schedule will be finalised shortly. Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu is also expected to attend the programme on the concluding ceremony on December 30. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the festival, senior officials said.

However, there are several allegations that the local artists of various organisations were side lined and insulted. The district administration was not encouraging local talent.

Responding to these allegations, Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao directed the district officials not to ignore the local artistes and talent and give them priority while selecting the programmes.
