Visakhapatnam: Principal of Institute of Science, GITAM, Prof K Arunalakshmi on Sunday said that Department of Biotechnology at the Institute of Science, GITAM is organising a 5-day programme called Inspire-Internship science camp from December 27-31.

The programme was sponsored by Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. The Inspire (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research) programme has been initiated by the DST to attract talented youth to study science at an early age.

Over 200 meritorious students from various schools and junior colleges including Kendriya Vidyalaya-No 1, Sri Chaitanya Junior College, St Joseph's College for Women, Timpany School, BVK Junior College, Oakridge International School, Vignan Vidyalayam School, Ameya World School, Sri Prakash Junior College and RK Junior College and Srinivasa Junior College of Vizianagaram will participate in the programme.

The students would get an opportunity to interact with eminent scientists from reputed institutions like Indian Institute of Science, (IISc), Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and University of Hyderabad (UoH), who will deliver lectures on various topics and motivate students through one-to-one interaction.

In addition, the students will gain hands-on experience in the laboratories of biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, mathematics and physics, through extensive practical sessions at the GITAM Institute of Science.

It is envisaged that this programme will ignite many young minds to pursue basic sciences as a career option and thereby help building and expanding the country's future resource pool.
