Insist on purchase bills Joint Collector tells consumers

Nellore: Joint Collector A Md Imtiaz said technology bestowed great opportunity to check quality of a product and consumers can verify the performance on the internet. Consumers have to update knowledge levels on such issues. One has to insist for valid bill as it gives them warranty against any defects and irregularities, he said.

The Joint Collector addressed at a programme organised at Old ZP Hall in city on Sunday in connection with National Consumers Day. He said in case of any discrepancy or problem with the quality, consumers can approach the Consumer Forums for justice where the bill plays vital role.

Disputes regarding products up to a value of Rs. 20 lakh can be placed before the Consumer Forum at district level for redressal and beyond that they can approach at State level forum.

Imtiaz said knowledge on the Consumer Protection Act, 1986 is highly needed for the consumers as it helps people. He cited many examples of successes of consumers who fought for their rights.

District Supplies Officer C Dharma Reddy said, `One has to be aware of latest trends in marketing where knowledge on protection of consumer rights is essential.’

Coordinator of National Informatics Centre Sai, Principal of DKW College Mastanaiah and others were present. Joint Collector distributed cash prizes to the students at school and college level who won in essay writing, elocution and other competitions.
