Kurnool: Seasonal diseases, particularly dengue fever, are rapidly spreading and more number of cases are being registered in Kurnool for the past several days. Almost all private hospitals are seen packed with patients suffering from various diseases.

After the rains in October, dengue cases were registered at all urban health centres in the district. The government has launched 11 Mobile Malaria & Dengue Clinics to prevent the disease.

The staff of mobile clinics visit the villages and collect blood samples from suspected persons. After conducting tests and if found any positive case, the staff will prescribe medication. Some days ago, a dengue patient, was said to have died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city. Even her son, SJ Sandeep, an 8-year-old was also admitted in the hospital with the same complaint and is said to be in critical state.

The private hospitals are making money from innocent people. According to sources, 315 dengue cases were registered since January, besides 433 suspected cases. More than 76 cases were detected positive till September and from October, the cases were further increased.

According to unofficial reports, more than 500 people were suffering from dengue. Reliable sources say that 12 to 15 dengue deaths were registered in the district. The health officials should sensitise people on personal hygiene and to keep the surroundings clean. But there seems to be not much effort initiated by the officials in this connection.
