Kaikalur police on Monday conducted search in the office of a prominent Telugu Desam leader in Kaikalur village, which is an Assembly constituency headquarters, in Krishna district, following allegations that the office was being used for gambling and cricket betting for the past few months. Hundreds of gamblers and punters were allegedly using the TDP leader’s office during the weekends. 

Vijayawada: Kaikalur police on Monday conducted search in the office of a prominent Telugu Desam leader in Kaikalur village, which is an Assembly constituency headquarters, in Krishna district, following allegations that the office was being used for gambling and cricket betting for the past few months. Hundreds of gamblers and punters were allegedly using the TDP leader’s office during the weekends.

Bookies and punters from almost all coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh gather at the leader’s party office to play the cards, which has been prohibited by the government. Due to influence of the TDP leader, local police had never raided the office.

However, with telecast of news of gambling in the office by a vernacular TV news channels on Monday, the police on Monday went to the office and enquired about the gambling and betting. By the time the police arrived, the gamblers and bookies left the building. Kaikalur allegedly became most a favourite spot for gambling and betting in the past few months.
