Nellore: Inaccessibility to medical services in the coastal region has led to the death of two persons on Monday when they drowned in the Bay of Bengal during a picnic tour. According to sources, a team of 24 persons - 12 women and 12 men- from Kothapet in Srikalahasti mandal reached to the sea coast at Tupilipalem by Ace autos on Monday morning. They enjoyed till afternoon and had lunch.

In the afternoon, they ventured into the sea and five persons washed away due to huge tidal wave. Local fishermen saved two people and other three were able to swim to shore. As the condition of three people was said to be critical, they were shifted to Vakadu for treatment. But doctors were not available there and the medical facility was also closed. The two were being shifted to Kota PHC.

Meanwhile, Mahaboob Pasha (37) died first and Muneer (40) died while on way to a private hospital. Another person, Jakeer, was shifted by ambulance to Gudur and then to Nellore for better treatment. Residents of Kothapet flayed that the deaths were occurred due to non-availability of doctors and staff members at the hospitals.
