Chirala: The patients in the government hospital in Chirala are all worried about their security after a rowdy-sheeter barged into their ward and attacked his rival with a knife on Monday night.

According to the Chirala One-Town police, V Suneel Kumar is a rowdy-sheeter with local police and resident of Harrispet in Chirala. On Monday morning, Suneel Kumar picked up a fight with Avula Raj Kumar and others of the same area. After a drunken brawl, he warned Raj Kumar that he would kill him soon.

As it was Christmas, Raj Kumar and his friends Sumanth, Suresh and Sultan went to Inkollu to a friend’s house on two motorbikes for a feast and were involved in an accident near Swarna village. As a result, Sultan died on the spot and the remaining three were shifted to a government hospital in Chirala.

As the news spread in the locality, Suneel Kumar hatched a plan to kill Raj Kumar in the hospital. He along with two others, reached the hospital in the wee hours of Tuesday and attacked Raj Kumar with a knife inflicting injury on the stomach. Raj Kumar, who was shell-shocked ran to the One-Town Police Station to seek protection while Suneel warned the patients, their attendants and hospital staff of dire consequences if they reveal his name.

The police shifted the injured Raj Kumar to the hospital again and the One-Town Circle-Inspector V Suryanarayana gathered information from Raj Kumar, Sumanth and Suresh on Tuesday.

Lakshmi, an attendant of a patient said that she spent the remaining night in constant fear as the attacker might mistakenly kill her son. Similarly, several other para-medical staff, nurses and patients expressed fears over their safety. However, CI Suryanarayana assured them that security would be beefed up at the hospital.
