Tirumala: The traditional temple cleansing festival, Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, performed with religious fervour in the temple of Lord Venkateswara here on Tuesday prior to the auspicious Vaikuntha Ekadasi.

According to the temple tradition, apart from Tirumala temple, the sub-shrines inside Maha Prakaram, were also cleansed with an aromatic mixture called ‘Parimalam’ which is made out of an amalgamation of turmeric, vermilion, kicchiligadda-a root plant and smeared all along the walls, floor, roof of the main temple and sub-temples.

Even the puja utensils kept inside sanctum sanctorum were also cleaned. While the cleaning process is on, the presiding deity of Lord Venkateswara is covered with a white veil. The cleansing process took place between 6 am to 10 am. Later, all the puja materials were brought back to the temple and the cover on the deity was removed. The Sarva Darshan commenced from 11 am onwards to pilgrims. TTD has cancelled Astadala Pada Padmaradhana Seva in connection with this religious event on Tuesday.

Speaking about the arrangements being made for Ekadasi, the EO Anil Kumar Singhal said the TTD will not compromise on arrangements. After Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, the EO held a review meeting on Vaikuntha Ekadasi at Annamayya Bhavan in Tirumala on Tuesday. The EO along with Tirumala JEO KS Srinivasa Raju reviewed department-wise arrangements for the big day.

He instructed the Health and Engineering wing officials to set up mobile toilets in Narayanagiri Gardens and queue lines. He also directed the Annaprasadam wing to make necessary food arrangements.

“The queue lines are laid from Kalyanavedika Gogarbham Junction to VQC Junction. Deploy Srivari Sevakulu and Scouts to maintain pilgrim crowd wherever their services are necessary. Supply Annaprasadam and beverages in and outside lines also near these junctions during the festive days,” he instructed the officials concerned.

The EO directed CVSO Ake Ravikrishna to make security arrangements in co-ordination with Tirupati Urban SP Abhishek Mohanty. “Also, deploy snake catchers in queue lines,” he added. The Electrical and Floral departments should display colourful themes for the big occasions, the EO stated.
