Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Matsyakarula ST Sadhana Samiti leader Kantumuchchu Tata Rao expressed solidarity with the fishermen agitating for ST status, in Srikakulam.
“Though they have been on relay fast, the government does not seem to be bothered about it. Our community in the entire State has decided to organise agitations. Though fishermen are enjoying SC or ST status in 18 States in the country, in Andhra Pradesh we are categorised in higher class,” he stated.
He said before the elections, the political parties had promised the fishermen community of granting ST status and had included it in their election manifesto. He demanded the parties to implement the promise.
