YSRCP district president Venkat Reddy expressed readiness to contest, but party chief Jagan reportedly turned down his request

Kurnool: Filing of nominations for Nandyal MLC (Local authorities Constituency) bypoll concluded on Tuesday. On the last day, four candidates filed their nominations papers with the returning officer Prasanna Venkatesh at the collectorate.

KE Prabhakar, brother of Deputy Chief Minister KE Krishna Murthy filed his nomination in two sets as the nominee of ruling TDP. Kurnool in-charge minister Kalava Srinivasulu, party MLAs of Kurnool, Kodmur and Nandyal, SV Mohan Reddy, Mani Gandhi and Bhuma Bhramananda Reddy respectively, accompanied Prabhakar.

The YSR Congress Party has decided to refrain from the contest. Party state general secretary B Y Ramaiah announced the party’s decision to stay away from contest on Monday.

However, despite Ramaiah’s announcement, party district president Gowru Venkat Reddy was reportedly keen to file nomination till the last minute on Tuesday. It is learnt that district president Venkat Reddy took the issue to the notice of party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy who is in his pada yatra in Anantapur and expressed his willingness to file nomination papers. But the party president was said to have turned down his request.

Besides the ruling party, two more candidates filed nominations. Dandu Seshu Yadav of Samajwadi Party and Pulyala Nagi Reddy, a former ZPTC member and follower of Byreddy Raja Sekhar Reddy, of Pagidiyala village and another person Puli Jaya Prakash Reddy filed nominations as independent candidates.

Voting to MLC byelection will be held on January 16 and the counting will take place on January 19. ZPTCs, MPTCs and councillors will exercise their franchise in the election.
