Vijayawada: The city has no suitable official government residences to provide accommodation for VVIPS like President, Prime Minister and other top prominent personalities. Though the city has four guest houses, they failed to provide proper accommodation to VIPs.

The total four guest houses, one is maintained by the state government and other three guest houses belong to Roads and Buildings Department, Zilla Parishad, and Municipal Corporation, are in the heart of the city.

Already, the state guest house has been earmarked for construction of a commercial complex by demolishing the entire structure. The other three guest houses maintained by R&B, Municipal Corporation and Zilla Parishad are not having sufficient facilities for staying of VIPS.

Though the state guest house has been upgraded with modern facilities recently, it failed to provide accommodation for VIPS. The only option VVIPs have is to stay in private hotels in the city.

The state government had demolished canal guest house, which belongs to irrigation department and allotted the site to city based industrialist for commercial complex. According to sources, the canal guest house has great history as several top level national leaders stayed there during their city visits. But the successive governments could not protect the historical guest house.

Now, the government is planning to demolish the state guest house and wants to construct a commercial complex in that place. However, the government did not clarify whether the proposed commercial complex will provide accommodation facility or not.

Though the city has assumed significance from Amaravati capital, the whole official machinery including ministers are working from here without proper accommodation facility or guest house.

All the ministers have arranged their own accommodation facility in the city. MLA P Vishnukumar Raju recently raised the accommodation problem in the Assembly session.

Though the state government has planned to construct housing project in Amaravati for MLAs, it did not mention about the construction of a building for accommodating top-level VIPs.

One GAD (general administration department) official on condition of anonymity, said that already they have brought this issue to the notice of higher officials. He said that the top officials have to take a decision in this regard.
