Cricket betting racket busted in Vijayawada, eight arrested

A cricket betting racket was busted by the Vijayawada police on Wednesday evening.

An eight-member gang of bookies was arrested by the police who also seized four communication boxes, five laptops, along with 36 mobile phones and cash worth Rs 36,000 in the operation.

According to the reports, the gang organising betting on recent league matches held in Australia.

Based on a tip-off, the police arrested the bookies from Hyderabad and Gudivada and Mangalagiri areas in Andhra Pradesh.

All the accused were booked under the AP Gambling Act, 1974. The remaining bookies who are on the run have been identified by the police and are to be arrested soon.

The accused confessed to the police that the turnover of each match was around Rs 14 lakh.
