President Ram Nath Kovind’s wife, the first Lady Savita Kovind  paid a visit to the Kanaka Durga temple along with her daughter Swathi Kovind on Wednesday.  

Vijayawada: President Ram Nath Kovind’s wife, the first Lady Savita Kovind paid a visit to the Kanaka Durga temple along with her daughter Swathi Kovind on Wednesday. She was offered a warm welcome by temple authorities including Temple Trust Board Chairman Yalamanchali Gouranga Babu and Executive Officer Surya Kumari. She offered prayers to Goddess Durga.

The temple priests blessed her and gave her the ‘prasadam’ and a portrait of the deity, Godess Kanakadurga. Savita Kovind was accompanied by Tourism Minister Bhuma Akhila Priya. Later, she reached Punnami Ghat where the officials of the AP Tourism Department gave her a rousing reception. She also visited Bhavani Island on a specially arranged boat along with security staff and officials.

She watched Kolatam and Girijan dance specially organised by Tourism Department. She went around the stalls of Mangalagiri saris and Kondapalli toys. The officials explained to her about the unique features of the toys and saris. She tasted Bandar laddu at the stall on the island. The President’s wife also watched recently opened laser show and expressed her satisfaction over the arrangements.

Earlier, Governor ESL Narasimhan, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, several Ministers and MLAs welcomed President Ram Nath Kovind and his wife Savita Kovind at Gannavaram airport. The Frist Lady directly reached to PWD grounds and went around the rose flowers exhibition and spent some time there. She also congratulated the rose flower organisers.

AP Mahila Commission Chairperson N Rajakumari interacted with Savita Kovind. District Collector B Lakshmi Kantham and higher officials of the Tourism Department were also present.
